Dana was born and raised in St. Louis and graduated from Affton High School. She attended Southeast MO State University earning a BS in Psychology and later attended SIU, Carbondale obtaining a Master's Degree in Social Work. 

Dana spent nearly 15 years in hospital-based medical social work specializing in Palliative Care. She founded a counseling clinic within the hospital providing services to chronically and terminally patients as well as their care givers and family members. She treated anxiety and depression that resulted from illness and chronic pain and incorporated mindfulness and sometimes brief yoga practices into her treatment plans.

Since late 2019 Dana has been providing counseling in area nursing homes, continuing to practice her specialty of meeting older adults where issues of aging and sometimes medical needs affect emotions and quality of life.
